Couldn’t agree with Jay Williams more!! The NCAA and these universities are making bigtime loot off these kids. The elite schools make an investment in their student-athletes’ education to the ballpark of a few hundred thousand dollars annually that if they get the right kids and continue to win can bring in multi million dollar revenues (Louisville Basketball had revenues of $45.8M in 2015)! That’s a hell of a return of investment on the schools and NCAA’s part. Great business model for them and they can slap these kids hands if they attempt to put a couple dollars in their pocket. How can you blame a kid who doesn’t come from money from taking gifts that are more than his parents have made annually or even a couple to few years?!?
You want to decrease the corruption in the sport??? Let these kids go directly to the NBA out of high school (will have to work with the NBA on this) and for the ones that do decide to play in college figure out a way to put some money in their pockets. Not saying this problem will go away but you’d see less issues with third party involvement in the recruitment of these kids.
